Ladies, you can’t go through life thinking that men are going to behave like you. Guys are completely different than women, and it’s been scientifically proven time and time again. It is nearly impossible for a guy to meet your high expectations, which means you’re bound to be disappointed if you’re expecting too much from him.

As a successful Portland matchmaking service with nearly 30 years in the industry of love, no one knows this better than us. Today, our Portland matchmakers are going to show you the dating expectations you must ditch in 2018.

1. Expecting Him to Approach You

Whether it’s at a bar, lounge, club, or at the coffee shop, if you expect men to make the first move, you’re bound to be disappointed. Yes, we understand that you’ve probably been taught that if a guy likes you he should approach h you first. However, guys also lack confidence and are afraid to make the first move. So instead, approach him yourself and show that you’re not afraid to go after what you want. Believe it or not, it’s totally cool for women to approach men nowadays.

2. Expecting Him to Ask for Your Number

It’s absolutely fine to wait around for a guy to come up to you and ask you for your number, if that’s what you want to do. But bear in mind that you might be waiting a very long time. Listen, ladies, guys are not that confident and have a hard time approaching women. You can make all the eye contact you want, but unless he’s very confident, he’s never going to approach you. So instead of letting that opportunity pass by, why not approach him yourself and ask him for his number?

3. Expecting Him to Ask You on a First Date

The same rule applies to this. If you’re waiting around for guys to ask you out on dates, you’re going to be waiting a while. You can go up to a guy, introduce yourself, and ask him to go out without looking desperate. It’s the 21st century, ladies, you’re more than capable of going up to a guy and asking him on a date. Eliminate those preconceptions and ask him out yourself. The worst thing that can happen is he says he has a girlfriend. Really, no harm, no foul.

4. Expecting Him to Pay for the Date

Some women are traditionalists and like it when a man pays for the entire date. We get it, it shows that he’s a gentleman and knows how to treat a woman right. But bear in mind, ladies, that gentlemen like this are rare nowadays. Some guys don’t like to pay for the date because they think women are using them for a free meal, which is simply not cool. To avoid any awkwardness, offer to pay for half of the date. Take your purse with you on every date and offer to pay.

5. Expecting Him to Be in Touch with You 24/7

If you both like each other and are going out on regular dates, then you’re definitely going to be in touch. But just because you’re dating doesn’t mean he’s under any obligation to be in touch with you 24/7. Even when you’re officially together you can’t expect him to be in touch with you all day long. He needs a life of his own, and so do you. Try not to get disappointed when he’s not in touch with you all day every day. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you, it simply means he is busy.

6. Expecting Him to Only Date You

If it’s the early stages of your relationship and you haven’t made it official yet, you can’t expect him to date you and only you. If you have not made it official, he has every right to date any woman he wants while dating you. Don’t get angry if he’s dating multiple women. Unless you’ve had the conversation to make your relationship exclusive, don’t get all bent out of shape if he’s talking to other women.

Expecting these things from a guy will leave you disappointed and frustrated. Instead, you need to let go of these dating expectations and go with the flow.
